  1. Justin Lee Says:

I want to be fair to Dan Brown.

Elitist literary critics say that Brown is not a good writer, and that the stories are boring. I personally think if we can really entertain and awe your audience, then you have achieved something worth reading. I also believe that “The Da Vinci Code” was almost impossible to act, to follow. People have all sorts of crazy expectations for the next book that you will be unable to fulfill. So I write this review as fair as I can, try to assess their own, but comparisons are inevitable. The Lost

symbol, not a bad book, but a disappointment. I did not know how it pleased me for the same reason so many Angels and Demons. Even if Brown does not assert the story with good rhythm. Over two thirds of the book (not exaggerating, I count the pages) was filled with variations on such a scene:

    Character A: Have you heard of X;
B-sign (usually Langdon): Yes, but I thought it was just a myth.
Character A says B shows or something.
    Character B responds with shock.
chased Then insert scenes of people walking from one place to another.
Then insert the words “Suddenly everything made sense.” At least for the next ten pages.
    Repeat.

After reading this, you have to wonder if Brown has lost a writer, where people do not seem to give a clear answer, and where scenes never solve any questions.

Here’s my advice to Dan Brown:

1 Fire your processor. There were some whole passages, even funds that served no purpose other than inflating your book in an odd size. I do not mind reading long books, but I do mind reading by unnecessary words. Ch 69, for example, is unnecessary. If the editor does not ask you out, then they should be fired. Sorry.

2 We need to know exactly how each character moves from one place to another, the phrase was, which way was across the street. If this is the land where geography is important (such as Angels and Demons), then fine. Geography was important at certain moments in this book, but often when the passages as a person moves from one part of a house in another part, open and close that door and everything is boring and hard to describe.

3 Do not write your novels such a scenario. Whether you realize it or not, read short chapters, as you had in mind, what camera settings you’d expect from an inevitable film adaptation. Leave that to the writer. If they like a book “Naked bring lunch,” can certainly customize your book. Write your book like a novel.

4 Be careful of hubris. They are a unique and rare situation, I’m sure many writers dream of: the books that will sell one million by default and you will get a multimillion-dollar agreement to film without question. Good for you! Some writers deal so good (eg JK Rowling), there was some not (such as Stephen King, Michael Crichton). Not that they are bad writers, but that will be capable of writing some very bad things. I did not say that The Lost Sounds bad, just that have over 100 pages unnecessary, repetitive scenes are lost. Speaking Crichton, why he reads that he was terminated very formal. All of his books are a number of experts will customize a remote location and something goes wrong. Art itself is not bad. Rowling is very typical. Most of the books revolve around the Hogwarts school year, but is it enough in history to make it work. We must do more than that.

5 You know what you are good. They know the technology that your book is mandatory. You know that your readers could go to a painting or an artist you mentioned Google and I was by what she described impressed. That’s great! I bet it also saves you the pain, apply for permits reproduction of the artwork and order. Also, because most people do not know their history, let alone the etymology of the words they use every day, you literally an endless supply of stories. This is what you are good. I would say, forget the essence of science. It is interesting, but like Angels and Demons, is an awkward fit. I do not remember it that every modern science in The Da Vinci Code and I was with him in order.

6th Try a recurring character. Langdon is nice, but believes that it is a sign or two, that the next book returns. Enabling is interesting is not a love interest.

Well, here’s the good news. Dan Brown has nuked the fridge, not least for me. Now that this book is out in nature, will probably give the readers the next book, a much fairer assessment. So, I am pleased to read, but I probably do not buy, the first day is over.

  2. Garvinstomp Says:

A short note on classification: I take 5-star reviews retain the best of the best. The previous Robert Langdon books to read at about 4 stars for no fun, but nothing similar to a literary masterpiece. I enjoyed this book very much less than the other two, hence the two stars.

“The Lost Symbol” is not a bad book. While it ranked 3rd certainly one of the three novels, Robert Langdon is still a fun read. Weak excuse Brown for his writing style and that I sign, which are quite two dimensional, you write with a little personality, except that which relates specifically to the story. I accept that this novel is exactly the same structure of the story and characters, how should the previous two. I accept that the relationship between people is odd. I agree that more resources will be concluded with a variation on the cheap Cliff Hanger “and then Robert could not believe what I saw!” I accept everything. But even with all these concessions, it took me just flat.

When it comes to style, I’m not quite sure if we should blame Brown or editor (or possibly the lack of this decision, I would take the blame). The style, while simple, easy for an editor that had some room to work, could be smoothed. What does the prose, the repetition of words and phrases again and again and again and again, often on the same page.

Sure, the story structure is identical to the first two match days with all the same types of characters and twists. But here’s the question this time is simply not working as before. Here’s why:

1 Robert Langdon is officially stupid: He spends most of his time to teach and to incorrect assumptions on what it does not solve anything. interior monologue is used to deliver some interesting side notes, but all that helps the plot further. I’m pretty sure that I knew absolutely nothing critical in the last third of the book. It was pushed completely sidelined.

2 The science of noetics as used in this book is a complete throw-away society has no influence on the plot: the A & D with the science of matter and antimatter played an important role in the whole surface. It is related of the big bang and religion, and of general application in the course of history was essential. Click here to open noetics just enough to annoy, considering that it does not serve the primary purpose. Also noetics is a science. Reading this book you will think it is more justified than it is. I was intrigued a few years ago when I first heard mention. After further research finds that one is more wishful thinking than science and that very little research and support. Closer examination of the studies (the water has “loved” is a favorite place) show gaping holes, inconsistencies, and the total lack of scientific method. While it may sound good it just is not meaningful.

3 The pay just does not work: Maybe we can be out of the great historical mysteries to reveal the world because it evaporates straight. The creation of this story often felt like a piece. In previous novels, Robert Langdon, a large move is among the many sites that are surrounded by symbols and puzzles. Here, he spends his time in a handful of buildings, many of which play no role in solving anything but just places to relax or think. I often found myself turning pages to not see what happened then, but to see if something happens. This shows for the first two were very cool. He gets such a publication, and then comes the “truth?” That’s it. I only read 500 pages to learn that? There are a couple of hours I never come back. ” Time.

I can say categorically that if the special edition released with all the pictures I will absolutely not for sale. Just Do not Care to read the novel ever again. I learned a lot about the history and there were some interesting parts. But overall it was mediocre, and sometimes it is worse than bad.

  3. David A. Rains Says:

As bad effort, I felt obliged to write, even if, the test buried so deep I can not believe that will be read.

The writing is tedious. The epiphanies are telegraphed. Somehow Langdon an idiot and repeatedly determine adamant for some time and then shocked that it was wrong. It is to know a serious abuse of the characters or see something readers do – cheesy device best used in bad movies. The big revelation is completely inadequate. The end is weak, moralizing and too slow to arrive.

    In addition, not bad.

  4. K. J. Sullivan Says:

The pages turned quickly, but partly also because I found myself skimming large sections of the religious philosophy of pseudo scientific mumbo jumbo and thorough report, which seems all continue indefinitely.
< , br /> The book is based and builds, until finally the truth revealed shocking. Without the details of this shocker was painfully obvious for quite some time and I’m impatient Brown, get a bit more. If other Shocker was revealed, my reaction was “So What”.

Enjoyed ends the chapter cliffhanger in Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code, but quickly became annoying “The Lost Symbol. Worse still, felt much of the book, as padding. The last 50 pages or so was like an infomercial – the story is over, but wait, there’s more! I hoped the book would be an interesting conclusion, but did not end with a whimper bang.

  5. NY Reader Says:

I was very excited when I saw that this book is available for my Kindle. I would be released in a position to download immediately, and will not have to wait in line at a bookstore or wait several days for all the nipple without deliverly like Kindle. That was the plan, but I’ve learned my lesson. I would have saved me much pain, if I wait until the contributions pour in.

What can you expect from a book by Dan Brown? Ominious a conspiracy to end a threat to the world as we know, a brutal thugs, the search for a McGuffin that the dark characters require decoding, and a complex plot that combines all these elements together. No one expects good writing, but the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, the book was strong enough to overcome weaknesses in Brown’s handwriting.

appeared in the first chapters, Lost icon as it would be equally successful. However, since the pages wore on, it became clear that much was missing. The action seemed more pathetic than sinister. Given what’s going on in Washington recently to the threat side of the world as we know it seemed, with a shrug and not be satisfied as an expression of horror. And evil, and certainly ruthless, driven only by Roid Rage “absurd.

The biggest disappointment was the revelation of the McGuffin after all evidence had been decoded. were Robert Langdon, an expert on the icons, the main protagonist of the book will find it only at his hotel to check are, and saves himself and the rest of us much time and effort.

? If the climax of the book (which puts an exclamation point on the irrationality of evil to achieve) will find that there is still more pages. Mr Brown has managed to fill the pages of religious apologetics, and pseudo-scientific nonsense, and even masochistic, anxious to read the monologue by John Galt in Atlas was collected will not be possible in this series, take the finale of The Lost icon.

The entire book is filled with the stench of pseudo-science, and Robert Langdon was in the role of the skeptic. Apart from the many incidents stupid decisions made by Langdon and other actors in the whole book to be inefficient Langdon skeptics in the history of the world. In defense of the book babble pseudo-science, almost every reader begging Langdon to the right question to ask is, or objections, but there is hope. Langdon is the ultimate gullability.

Everyone has versions of religious apologetics, to read hundreds of books appear at the end of the year. But there is nothing new. Completion of the apologia is different than usual, and will certainly be confusing many Christians, where the arguments was the title. The sign at the end of the story was published – after all, there is hope in the world. I was relieved and just pressed the delete button.
